In most irc chatrooms, you will be asked to get yourselves a nickname To do this you must type....../nick (and the nickname you want) you must also check that this nickname isnt registered to someone else...to do this when you change, check in your status window, it will tell you there

Register your nick so no one else can use it type this...../msg nickserv register (password) remember your password because you will be asked for it everytime you connect to irc.

You will see a lot of people doing actions.....to do this type.../me smiles...or any other action:)

When you enter a room...you will most certainly be asked your A/S/L you will then get what we call VOICED.....which will put a + next to your nickname. Being VOICED means on a moderated channel, all those who are not voiced, will be unable to talk in the channel. It also means you are of age for that room, and welcome in the room, by the operators:))

A moderated room means that it has been set by an operator, so anyone who isnt voiced, cannot talk in the channel

A bot is a script written to respond to commands given by the owner and users. It also protects the room, and its operators.

Know as OPS, and shown by a @ sign An op is a channel operator, he/she can kick people off the channel, change the mode or topic, and can op others. To become an op, you must start your own channel, or by becoming a regular in a certain channel, and having an op "op" you.

A NETSPLIT is when servers disconnect from each other..like cars on a train coming disconected, they can talk but in the same car, but not across the disconect.

Channel modes are: +s Secret, +p Private, +i Inv!te Only, +l (and a number) limited to XX amount of people, +m moderated (only ops and those with +v mode can type), +t Topic can be changed only by channel op, +n No messages to channel itself from outside of it, +k Needs a keyword

DCC= Direct Client to Client. It allows you to connect directly to another irc client, bypassing the IRC Network, to DCC Send and DCC Get files, and to DCC chat privately over a more secure connection.

To dcc chat with someone type /dcc chat nickname

IRC have a few rules, it isnt nice to private message someone without there permission, in a lot of channels, you will get kicked for it, it is polite to ask in the channel first:) Also to DCC a file to someone without prior permission, a lot of people, wont accept files off people they dont know. Its just a case of having a few manners:))
